School Notes:
- Nationally recognized as one of the few remaining boarding schools of its kind in the United States, Grand River Academy offers a non-military, nonsectarian, all-male college preparatory education. There has been an academic institution on campus for 168 years. The modern academy, founded in 1962, upholds a mission to develop and foster the emotional and academic maturity necessary for its students to graduate and launch successful college careers. The Academy's curriculum is college preparatory, with an emphasis on helping those students who can benefit from the extra attention offered in a boarding program.
- The Grand River Academy accepts boys in grades 9 through 12 and a post-graduate year, either as boarding or day students. We believe that responsible and educated students are developed through a structured yet flexible atmosphere for intellectual, social, and physical growth. Students, including those who are not working near their potential, are assisted in preparing for a college education after graduation from the Academy. An integral part of the program is the dedicated staff, whose members emphasize individual attention for every student willing to make a commitment to his education, to personal growth, and to a better understanding of the society in which he must function.
- During the six-week co-educational Summer Academy, 5 and 7-day boarding students can strengthen an academic area or investigate a new subject. This upcoming summer we anticipate offering the following courses: Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Integrated Algebra, Algebra II, English 9, English 10, Advanced Grammar & Composition, Essay Writing, US History, Government.
- The summer starts off on Monday morning as students begin classes. The first weekend is always reserved for the BIG trip to Cedar Point. The students are kept busy both in the classroom and out. Trips have been planned and students enjoy the great weather that NorthEast Ohio has to offer. They have the opportunity to attend an Indians game, visit Cedar Point and Lake Shore Park, putt-putt at the Geneva Adventure Zone and enjoy the Erie Family First Sports Park. The students play paintball, enjoying golf, tennis, sand volleyball, canoeing, playing basketball & fishing.
