School Notes:

  • Kippewa believes every girl needs a safe, fun place to make friends with other girls and women, to learn social, artistic and athletic skills, and to take childhood's steps toward the independence of adulthood. Recent research in co-education has begun to catch up with what Kippewa has known for decades: that girls make closer friendships, build greater confidence, demonstrate greater ability, and feel a heightened sense of well-being in a place of their own.
  • The caring, nurturing ambiance of Kippewa sets a girl at ease with who she is, giving her the confidence to make friends easily and feel comfortable about trying challenging new activities. Kippewa is large enough to have plenty of girls in every age group and to support a lavish activities program, and small enough so that everyone in camp gets to know everyone else.
  • Kippewa's staff has the skill and experience to advance the most sophisticated student in every activity, yet the focus is on individually teaching each girl to learn in her own way and to her highest level, regardless of her ability. Small groupings in both the cabins and the activities allow the campers to feel nurtured, and the counselors to be attentive and successful. With at least one counselor for every three girls, and a senior staff member for every four counselors, supervision and guidance are abundant.
  • Four decades of expanding opportunities have created camps-within-camps at Kippewa For Girls: There are major programs in horseback riding, studio and performing arts, gymnastics, tennis, field sports, water sports and wilderness camping trips. A chief advantage is having full access to the vast offerings of these seven specialty programs in one setting, with the flexibility to broaden or change focus even after arrival at Kippewa. The emphasis is on activities that are not readily available at home, and that rely on Kippewa's many specialized buildings and wooded, lakeside setting.
