School Notes:

  • Skidmore College’s commitment to lifelong learning and community enrichment is nowhere more apparent than in the varied educational offerings sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Special Programs. This division and its distinctive array of institutes, seminars, residencies, and programs have contributed substantially to Skidmore’s unique place among liberal arts colleges and to its national prominence as a place for academic experimentation and cutting-edge artistic creation and development.
  • The experience of college life and learning happens in the residence hall as well as the classroom, and at Skidmore we make sure this is a key part of the experience. One of the College's residence halls is set aside each summer for high school students in the Pre-College Program and in APA Art Program. Students live in double rooms in suites for six, with an adjoining double bathroom. Several small lounges throughout the building and a large ground floor lounge provide ample social space.
  • A Pre-college Program in Studio Art for Talented High School Students Skidmore's APA program is designed for highly motivated and talented high school students who wish to augment their studio art experiences in a rigorous college environment. The program is sponsored by Skidmore's Summer SIX Art Program which, since its beginning in 1968, has been distinguished as an intensive learning experience that provides special opportunities during the summer for the students to explore and further develop their artistic talents.
  • APA students work alongside college students in classes that are small and individualized, and in spacious, well-equipped studios with skylights. In addition, the program features nationally known visiting artists, who lecture on their work and provide critiques. A stimulating learning environment is created as a result of the confluence of an excellent resident faculty, visiting artists of national reputation, a community of diverse students, and an outstanding art facility.
