School Notes:
- Smith College is one of the top-rated liberal arts colleges in the United States and the nation's largest college dedicated solely to the education of women. Based in the multi-building Clark Science Center, the Smith science faculty includes some of the finest researchers and teachers in the country.
- For 15 years, Smith College's Summer Science and Engineering Program has brought promising, highly motivated high school girls to its campus for a month-long stay designed to show them just how talented they really are.
- A month at Smith will give you an exceptional opportunity to do science and engineering, will enhance your skills, boost your confidence, and connect you with professionals who will support your efforts. You will also make great new friends from all over the world. The science you'll do at Smith is more challenging than the science you do in high school. You get to work independently, and there's no pressure. (No exams and no grades!) Your professors are members of a distinguished faculty. And you get the chance to to the kinds of experiments you won't do in high school.
- In addition to doing great science, the SSEP is about making new friends and getting a taste of college life. A month at Smith won't be all scientific investigation - living on campus involves lots of socializing and recreation, too. At four in the afternoon, when the day's classes are over, participants can take part in organized sports, hang out with their friends, visit the Smith athletic facility gym or pool, (King/Scales, where the students will be staying, also has its own workout room available to SSEP students) or join activities ranging from artistic (pottery, painting, music ensemble) to just plain fun (hula dancing, drumming, scavenger hunt and karaoke).
