- A unique type of summer community service program has been extended to World Horizons on behalf of Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Located in the spectacular Angel Canyon in the desert of southern Utah, Best Friends is the nation's largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals. There are never less than 1,500 dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits, goats and burros who are nursed back to health, and are put up for adoption to caring and loving families.
- The World Horizons group will spend two (2) weeks at the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary helping with many aspects of the sanctuary's operation. Horizons participants will have the opportunity to work alongside the staff in the daily care of the animals and will be incorporated into the routine of helping to feed, exercise and cleanup after the animals. In addition, students may assist in small scale repair projects around the facility.
- The program will vary from day to day according to the needs of the sanctuary and FLEXIBILITY IS A MUST Because of the extraordinary location of Best Friends, there will be ample opportunity over the weekends for hiking, and visiting the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon and the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. In addition to the two weeks at Best Friends, students will volunteer for 10 days at the Zion National Park, helping with maintenance while camping in the canyon.
